چکیده

Abstract Soil water repellency (SWR) reduces the rates of wetting in dry soils and is known to interfere with movement into as well within soils. The objective this study was investigate hydrophysical characteristics three water-repellent tropical exotic plantation forest wet seasons. sites were Eucalyptus grandis (EG), Pinus caribaea (PC), Casuarina equisetifolia (CE) located up-country intermediate zone (EG PC), low-country (CE). Field experiments conducted measure infiltration rate, unsaturated hydraulic conductivity ( k ), sorptivity S W ). Laboratory potential SWR entry value h we All showed higher season, where CE highest. EG highest season. Although all decreased increasing depth only a significant decrease soil Compared (–1 cm) lower However, did not show difference between Initial rate negative correlation contact angle Soils positive linear correlations , showing that surface absorption related both subsurface flow pressure. It clear hindered by SWR. High values season predict high potentials for intensified runoff topsoil erosion. Future research will be required on interactions biology properties such pore structure would influence

Productivity, nutrient cycling, and succession in single- and mixed-species plantations of Casuarina equisetifolia, Eucalyptus robusta, and Leucaena leucocephala in Puerto Rico

Tree growth, biomass productivity, litterfall mass and nutrient content, changes in soil chemical properties and understory forest succession were evaluated over a 8.5-year period in singleand mixed-species (50 : 50) plantations of two N2-®xing species, Casuarina equisetifolia and Leucaena leucocephala, and a non-®xing species, Eucalyptus robusta. At the optimal harvest age for maximum biomass ...

The Water Quality of Streams Draining a Plantation Forest on Gley Soils: the Nant Tanllwyth, Plynlimon Mid-wales 485 the Water Quality of Streams Draining a Plantation Forest on Gley Soils: the Nant Tanllwyth, Plynlimon Mid-wales

The water quality of the Nant Tanllwyth stream in the Plynlimon region of mid-Wales is related to the key hydrobiogeological controls and the effects of conifer harvesting based on an analysis of rain, cloud, stream and groundwater measurements. The results show the normal patterns of stream water quality response to hydrology. Thus, there is a high damping of atmospheric inputs due to storage ...

Drying Characteristics of Pine Forest Residues

The thin layer drying of pine forest residues consisting of bark, needles, leaves, and chips was experimentally conducted at air temperatures of 40, 50, 60, 70, and 80C. Physical and chemical properties of fractionated forest residues were determined to evaluate its fuel properties. The experimental data obtained from thin layer drying study were fitted with Lewis, Page, and Henderson and Pabis...

Spatial patterns of a tropical tree species growing under an eucalyptus plantation in South-East Brazil.

The objectives of this study were to evaluate the influence of propagules source and the implication of tree size class on the spatial pattern of Xylopia brasiliensis Spreng. individuals growing under the canopy of an experimental plantation of eucalyptus. To this end, all individuals of Xylopia brasiliensis with diameter at soil height (dsh) > 1 cm were mapped in the understory of a 3.16 ha Eu...
